My very first coach, Wendy Keilin, taught me to end the year by celebrating the year’s accomplishments. It’s so easy to look ahead and make some crazy list of the 5 million things you plan to accomplish in 2010. You can do that.
Just, first, take a deep breath and enjoy all the gifts of the [...]

Over the years, I’ve had several people come to me and say, “I need a book writing coach. I have to write my book. I keep gaining weight and I know I will lose that weight when I write my book.”
One beautiful soul told me recently that her belly actually looks pregnant, “I’ve gained weight [...]

My book writing classes–are back–both LIVE and by teleseminar–and they now include a book concept evaluation, a customized editing plan and feedback on how you can best organize your book coupled with private consultations. I’ve found that the people who make the commitment, make a plan and get support get their books written. The expanded [...]

Beware: if you don’t answer this question when you begin writing your book, you may end up doing a good deal of extra work.
That’s because authors who intend to self-publish can just write their book, but those who intend to traditionally publish need to write a book proposal first, particularly for a nonfiction book.
A book [...]

I’ve been busy going through all the exciting info gleaned from my three days at Harvard Medical School’s publishing course. I’m planning several blog posts on my private conversations with literary agents and publishers on what they’re looking for, the state of publishing, what authors can do, etc.
In the meantime, here’s a quick post (and [...]

Many aspiring writers meet their first challenge when they face the writing of their introduction. If you think like your reader, you should find the job much easier.
In the introduction your reader is trying to find out:
1. Will this book help me solve my particular problem, challenge or goal?
2. What kind of results can I [...]

I received an e-mail today from someone who was looking for an editor–sort of.
In her e-mail she complained that she’d already spent thousands of dollars on a book proposal that agents told her was terrific but that there was no market for–unless she was someone famous. [Note: I had not helped her with the book [...]

How to Write a book in 2009:
You’ve pictured yourself on Oprah and run through the interview a million times. Now it’s time to actually write the book that’s going to prompt the interview.
1. Make the commitment: Hey, if you don’t commit, it won’t happen. Good intentions are like snowflakes. They eventually melt. Commitments can [...]

I recently received the brochure for the 2009 course, Publishing Books, Memoirs and Other Creative Nonfiction, which is offered March 26-28 at Boston’s Fairmont Copley Hotel. Several of my writing coaching clients have told me they’ll be there. Will you?
Even if you’re not a medical professional or health writer, I can think of a whole [...]
