Day 20: October Journaling Adventure with The Joy of Writing Journal

This is one of my favorite videos!

  • Opalescent
  • Luminescent
  • Ornery
  • Transcendent
  • Yearn
  • Quench
  • Slick

Do you delight in words as much as I do?

What words come to you today as you make a list of words you love? Or even just words that intrigue you in this moment?

My journaling exploration leads to a couple of poems, one that ends with my sliding down a rock and stopping just before an opalescent oil slick.

In the second, I also climb, this time along a jetty.

I search the clear waters

Filled with blooming seaweeds–

Flat, round, brownredgreenyellow

Looking for the octopus

I spotted last winter

…a gift to see her that once.

If you haven’t shared yet, here’s an easy one. Just share a few of the words you listed.

Feeling bolder? Share an excerpt of your writing. Did your favorite words evoke a certain mood in your writing?

Did some of the words seem to go together, like my opalescent and translucent?

Any time you feel a little stuck, you can make a list of words you love and go from there.

Day 20 – Words we Love – Prompt – Sublime

I’m having another go at a poem. I find I prefer writing a lot of words to convey meaning however, my exploration into poetry leads me to find less words can communicate as well, though it leaves me less satisfied. In this poem, I use all of my 10 words – it was so fun, even if it doesn’t make sense.

Sublime quietude caresses the depth of space
Beckoning a delightful kindness touching grace
A vibrancy surrounds this peaceful elegant place

    Gentle friends
    wander in silent homage
    of nature’s beauty
    in a modest Zen garden.
    Harmony peeks through frothy blooms,
eyes feast on dewdrops, dappled sunlight,
and yearning green buds reaching skyward.
    Fervent hopes sustain us,
    and gratitude finds its foothold.
The stoney path beneath our shoes
belies the peaceful co-existence for all.

I enjoyed everyone’s poems — they were so evocative. But it was back to prose for me.

Some of my words were: arpeggio, harmony, elegant, frosty, curvaceous, dappled, dulcet and joy. They led me to write about an imaginary concert with a beautiful singer packed into a tight sequined gown and mesmerizing the crowd with her glorious voice.
