Scam Alert: Someone Is Impersonating Me

It has come to my attention that someone is using my name to target authors in a publishing scam, and I want to make sure you know what to look out for.

Here’s how the scam has been working:

  • An author receives an unexpected email from someone claiming to be an acquisitions editor or publishing professional. The email may include a surprisingly detailed analysis of the author’s book and express interest in traditionally publishing a book that has already been self-published.
  • At some point in the conversation, the person tells the author that the book needs editing before it can move forward and recommends me as an editor. They may even send here you to my real website which understandably makes the recommendation seem legitimate.
  • But then they give you a fake email address and tell you to contact me there.

Please know: lisatener1@outlook.com is NOT my email address.

That email address is not associated with me or my business. If someone directs you to contact me at that address, you are not communicating with me.

How Can You Tell If You’re Really Communicating With Me?

If someone recommends or refers you to me, I’m always happy for you to reach out. But please use the contact information found directly on lisatener.com, rather than an email address or other contact information someone else provides to you.

If you receive an unexpected publishing offer—especially one that leads to a request for editing, payment or other services—please take a moment to verify who you are communicating with before sending money or sharing personal or financial information.

I will never ask you to communicate with me or send payment through lisatener1@outlook.com.

Did You Receive One of These Emails?

If you received an email like the one described above, or someone has used my name in a way that doesn’t seem quite right, please contact me through the official contact information here on my website.

If you can, please save the original emails and take screenshots of the correspondence. Sharing those with me may help identify other versions of the scam and report the fraudulent accounts.

I’m grateful to the authors who brought this to my attention, and I hope sharing this information helps prevent someone else from being misled.
